MAKE HEALTHY EATING A DAILY LIFE STYLE CHANGE FOR GOOD QUALITY OF LIFE!!

As I continued to make lifestyle changes, I began to focus more on the four basic food groups. Daily focusing on these groups would help me keep balanced nutrition. I have learned that when it comes to healthy eating, food has to be in proper balance. At one point in time, I had the misconception that if the food is healthy, you can go over the limit. However, the knowledge I have gained has helped me to see that going over the limit, even with healthy foods, causes weight gain. I enjoy carbohydrates, so I have to be especially careful not to exceed foods in this group.

I went to Wikipedia to familiarize myself with the four basic food groups. It states, “The government’s basic four involves (1) meats, poultry, fish, dry beans and peas, eggs and nuts; (2) dairy products, such as milk, cheese and yogurt; (3) grains and wheat products; (4) fruits and vegetables.”

Leaning about the four basic food groups and the many varieties has given me a tremendous amount to work with. I can now mix and match foods in ways I never would have imagined. When I prepare kidney beans, I add red, green and yellow bell peppers, as well as onions, jalapeño peppers and tomato paste. This not only gives me several of the food groups, but good nutrition and a delicious taste. Then I put these kidney beans with all the trimmings over brown rice, which is also a good source of nutrition.

Eating healthy has opened up a whole new world of foods for me that I never knew existed. This always helps keep my meal planning interesting. I never seem to run out of ideas for ways to prepare delicious, healthy meals. Making lifestyle changes with the way I eat has truly been a delight. One interesting observation I have made over the years is how my taste buds have adjusted and adapted to my new way of eating. This is something I never thought about when I started making changes. Now when I eat foods on occasion that I have had in the past, they don’t taste as good as they once did. My new healthy way of eating tastes better to me now.
